Round 4 - Kobalt Tools 500, Atlanta

Round 4 of the series took place at the very fast Atlanta Motor Speedway in Georgia.

I started off the race weekend with a mildly satisfying practice session, where after my 10 laps I was 14th fastest with a time of 31.407.

Qualifying went not very well for me as I qualified 13th with a time of 31.286.

Fuel consumption was the important factor in this race. I made my way up to 10th before pitting for fuel on lap 52.

I managed in those laps to pass a few cars and get into the top 4 before having to pit again on lap 90 for fuel!. So upset was I that I failed to notice the speed limit and got a black flag for my trouble!

I did manage to claw my way back up the field to finish 13th.

I led 0 of the 114 laps.

I was now in 2nd place in the overall standings 24 points behind..

Round 3 UAW Dodge 400 - Las Vegas

I was on good form and feeling confident of a good result at the very fast Las Vegas Motor Speedway when the Sprint Cup cars arrived on 12/11/2014 for round 3 of the series.

The 10 laps practice session went very well as I was fastest after the 10 laps with a time of 32.377.

Qualifying was slightly disappointing as my better time of 32.307 only gave me a 14th place starting position.

This race could have been a big disaster for me.

It was another fuel induced set of problems for me today.

I received a black flag on lap 30 for dangerous driving.

I stopped for fuel and tires on lap 32 and then started to fight my way back to the front of the pack.

I was on course to achieve this when I had to stop for fuel again on lap 81. With 12 laps to go I still had a chance alas I could only manage to fight back to 17th place.

My fastest lap of the race was a 32.401.

I was now leading the championship by 27 points.

Round 2 - Auto Club 500 Auto Club Raceway (California)

Round 2 of the series took place at the Auto Club Speedway, previously Fontana in sunny California.

I was fastest in practice with a time 41.852 after my 10 laps.

In qualifying I was able to reproduce my form and duly qualified in pole with times of 41.941 and 41.980.

In the race I managed to be around the front until lap 42 when I stopped for fuel. I had to stop again on lap 43 because I was caught speeding in the pit lane!

I then spent the rest of the race making my way back to the front which I duly achieved!

My best lap of the race was 41.842 which was faster than I qualified!

I was 1st in the standings, 65 points ahead.

Round 1 - Daytona 500, Daytona, Florida

For this series I decided to leave the limit for practice as 10 laps.

I ended up fastest after practice with a best time of 50.289 seconds.

Qualifying for this series (and all other NASCAR championships) is in a 2 lap dash format. The track is empty at this point.

I qualified in 1st. My time was 50.303.

I managed to stay up front until there was a yellow flag period midway through the race. I took the opportunity to pit for fuel. I rejoined the race in 10th place.

I spent the remainder of the race working my way through the pack. I was helped when everyone else stopped for gas under green flag conditions.

The result was my first Daytona 500 win!

My fastest lap of the race was 49.673 my fastest lap of the weekend.

I led 74/of the 90 laps.
