Round 30 AMP Energy 500 Talledega

The latest round of the championship took place on the high banking of the fastest super speedway of them all, Talledega.

Qualifying on a super speedway is not one of my greatest strengths so I was glad to be quickest in practice with a time of 51.703.

I was just as successful in qualifying, a time of 52.084 was good enough for pole position.

I led the first 10 laps until a mistake sent me back into the pack.

By lap 15 I'd got back to the front and held it until lap 23.

I stopped for fuel on lap 27.

It took me twelve laps to get back into the lead which I held until the chequered flag.

I was now 1st in the championship, 254 points ahead.

My fastest lap time of the race was 51.742.

Round 29 Kansas 400

Round 29 took place at the very fast Kansas Motor Speedway on the 12th December 2015.

As usual it seems I had a very good practice session, topping the timing sheets with a time of 33.425.

Qualifying didn't go so well as I could only manage a 33.433 which saw me on the 18th row in 36th place.

It didn't take long for me to move up the order in the race. I decided to stop for fuel on lap 46 when I was running 4th.

I received the dreaded black flag on lap 30 and after serving the corresponding drive through penalty I found myself at the back of the pack.

I had 50 laps to get back to the front. It was hard work but I managed it! Another in another step towards the championship.

I was still 1st in the standings 214 points ahead.

My fastest lap of the race was a 33.552.

I led 23 of the 80 laps.

Round 28 - Dover Sprint Cup 400

The Monster Mile that is Dover played host to round 28 of the series.

As with recent rounds in practice I was fastest with a best time of 26.802.

Qualifying went well as I posted the fastest time and secured another pole position (26.711).

I kept the lead from pole for the majority of the early laps.

The high banking almost caused me to spin on lap 23. I dropped to 5th as a result of the incident.

On lap 30 I stopped for fuel under a yellow flag caution period.

I received a black flag on lap 50 for dangerous driving and so had to take a drive through penalty.

I had to for fuel again on lap 61 under yellow again.

Driving through the pack again I received another black flag for dangerous driving on lap 72. To compound the error I sped in the pitlane and so had to do another drive though.

I had 50 laps to get back to somewhere near the lead. I thought I was going to come up short however a yellow flag on lap 117 gave me an opportunity. I sailed past the leader in the remaining laps to take another win.

My best race lap was 26.555 the fastest of the weekend.

I led 79 of the 120 laps.

I was now 1st in the Championship standings 130 points ahead.

Round 27 - New Hampshire, Sylvania 300

The Nascar Sprint Cup series rolled into New Hampshire on October 10th 2015.

This one mile flat oval would prove quite a challenge or so I thought. Practise went well as I set the fastest time of 31.941.

In the qualifying session I qualified on pole with a time of 31.604.

I took the lead early on in the race to get the 5 bonus points for leading a lap.  I led the race until stopping for fuel around lap 45. I fought my way through the pack but could only make 2nd place by the time the race finished.

My fastest lap of the race was a 31.498.

I was 1st in the standings, 100 ahead to make the chase.

Round 26 - Richmond, Chevvy Rock n Roll 400

The first round of the championship chase took place on the high speed short track of Richmond.

I was glad to be quickest in practice with a time of 22.704 as this is a very trick circuit to master.

I was just as successful in qualifying, a time of 22.253 was good enough for pole position.

After the drop of the green flag I stayed in the top three until I inexplicably spun on lap 57! Under the yellow I took the opportunity to pit for fuel. It was now a race to get back to the lead, Alas, it was too much as yet again I received a black flag, Coming out, down the field, at lap 102 it was going to be a tall order to get to the front. By lap 120 when the chequered flag flew I was in 8th place.

I was now 1st in the championship, 90 points ahead.

My fastest lap time was 21.869 my fastest of the weekend.

Round 25 - Pepsi 500 Auto Club Raceway (California)

Round 25 of the series took place at the Auto Club Speedway, previously known as Fontana, in sunny California.

I was fastest in practice with a time 41.718 after my 10 laps.

In qualifying I was able to reproduce my form and duly qualified in pole with times of 41.812 and 41.932.

In the race I managed to be around the front until lap 26 when I received the dreaded black flag for dangerous driving.  With over half the race to go I decided to get my head down and make a concerted effort to get back to the front. My progress was halted on lap 39 when I had to stop for fuel. Luckily for me the rest had to stop as well so I lost no further ground.

I spent the rest of the race making my way back to the front which I duly achieved!

My best lap of the race was 41.797 which was faster than I qualified!

I was 1st in the standings, 461 points ahead.
