Round 10 Chevy Rock & Roll 400, Richmond

The latest round of the championship took place on the high speed short track of Richmond.

I was glad to be quickest in practice with a time of 22.512 as this is a very trick circuit to master.

I was just as successful in qualifying, a time of 22.369 was good enough for pole position.

After the drop of the green flag I stayed in the top three until I pitted for fuel on lap 70. After rejoining the race the new tyres enabled me to regain the lead by lap 106. No one else pitted for fuel. The remaining 14 laps were uneventful and I was able easily to stay in front until the chequered flag fell.

Another win!

I was now 1st in the championship, 255 points ahead.

My fastest lap time was 21.960 my fastest of the weekend.

Round 9 - Aaron's 499, Talledega

The latest round of the championship took place on the high banking of the fastest super speedway of them all, Talladega.

Qualifying on a super speedway is not one of my greatest strengths so I was glad to be quickest in practice with a time of 52.203.

I was just as successful in qualifying, a time of 52.063 was good enough for pole position.

When the race started I held the lead until lap 28 when I and the rest of the field pitted for fuel.

My pit entrance was poor which dropped me to 22nd when I eventually returned to the track.

I fought my way back through the pack and return to the head of the field 10 laps from the end.

In the end I managed to record another win!

I was now 1st in the championship, 162 points ahead.

My fastest lap time of the race was 51.422 which was my fastest of the weekend .

Round 8 - Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500

The 8th round of the Championship took place in the Arizona desert at the Phoenix International Raceway.

Practice went very well as my time of 28.804 was the fastest posted during the session.

My good form carried over into qualifying as I was able to win pole position with a time of 28.763.

In the race I was always in the top 2 until I stopped for fuel on lap 45. I then started my way back through the pack however this was halted when I got a black flag 10 laps from the end. I managed to salvage a 7th place finish in the end.

My best lap time in the race was 28.826.

The result took me 88 clear at the top of the Championship standings.

Thursday 17 December 2015

Round 7 - Samsung 500, Texas

Round 7 took place at one of the fastest tracks on the championship circuit, Texas Motor Speedway.

The race weekend started well as I was fastest straight out of the box in practice with a time of 33.564 after the mandatory 10 laps.

I was a tad slower in qualifying but still managed to claim pole position with a time of 33.585.

I led the majority of the laps until I pitted for fuel on lap 34. I then began the long journey back through the pack. I had to take chances as the pack pitting for fuel was not something I could rely on. This caused me to get a black flag and a drive through penalty on lap 41.

Forty seven laps were left when I came out of the pits. Together with the pack stopping for fuel and some great driving I managed to get back to the lead and finish the race first!

My best lap of the race was a 33.406 which was my fastest of the race weekend.

I led 48 of the 84 laps.

I was 1st in the standings 57 points ahead.

Sunday 13 December 2015

Round 6 - Goody's Cool Orange 500, Martinsville

Round 6 of the series took place on the tight 'paper clip' 0.5 mile oval that is Martinsville.

I was quickest over the 10 lap practice session with a time of 20.702..

I was quicker in qualifying as I managed pole with a time of 21.064..

From then start I took the lead and was able to hold it comfortably. The only problem I had was when I was lapping the slower cars which on an half mile oval comes very quickly I not unexpectedly got a warning about rough driving. The dreaded black flag followed on lap 62.

I received another one at lap 85 however I still managed to climb back through the pack to record another victory.

I led all of the 63 laps of the 125 laps.

My fastest lap was 20.563, the best of the weekend.

I was now tying for the lead in the championship.

Sunday 18 October 2015

Round 5 - Food City 500, Bristol

The question as the Sprint cars rolled into Bristol was whether my form would continue at Nascar's toughest short track.

With a lot of cars on track at one time setting a fast time in practice proved difficult but midway through the session I managed to set the fastest time (17.359).

In qualifying I managed to get pole position with a time of 16.203.

In the race I was comfortably holding the lead when on lap 32 I had a spin! My first for a very long time. I was at the back of the pack when the race restarted. By lap 83 when I stopped for fuel I'd got back to 5th. When I came out of the pits I had 57 laps to get back to the front - I was confident I could do it. I turned out to be wrong as on lap 132 I received a black flag for rough driving due in part to the traffic I was constantly in. After the drive through I managed to climb back to 14th.

My fastest racing lap was 16.354 just outside my qualifying time.

I led 57 of the 150 laps.

I was now 2nd in the championship 83 points behind the leader.

Sunday 11 October 2015

Round 4 - Kobalt Tools 500, Atlanta

Round 4 of the series took place at the very fast Atlanta Motor Speedway in Georgia.

I started off the race weekend with a mildly satisfying practice session, where after my 10 laps I was 14th fastest with a time of 31.407.

Qualifying went not very well for me as I qualified 13th with a time of 31.286.

Fuel consumption was the important factor in this race. I made my way up to 10th before pitting for fuel on lap 52.

I managed in those laps to pass a few cars and get into the top 4 before having to pit again on lap 90 for fuel!. So upset was I that I failed to notice the speed limit and got a black flag for my trouble!

I did manage to claw my way back up the field to finish 13th.

I led 0 of the 114 laps.

I was now in 2nd place in the overall standings 24 points behind..

Saturday 10 October 2015

Round 3 UAW Dodge 400 - Las Vegas

I was on good form and feeling confident of a good result at the very fast Las Vegas Motor Speedway when the Sprint Cup cars arrived on 12/11/2014 for round 3 of the series.

The 10 laps practice session went very well as I was fastest after the 10 laps with a time of 32.377.

Qualifying was slightly disappointing as my better time of 32.307 only gave me a 14th place starting position.

This race could have been a big disaster for me.

It was another fuel induced set of problems for me today.

I received a black flag on lap 30 for dangerous driving.

I stopped for fuel and tires on lap 32 and then started to fight my way back to the front of the pack.

I was on course to achieve this when I had to stop for fuel again on lap 81. With 12 laps to go I still had a chance alas I could only manage to fight back to 17th place.

My fastest lap of the race was a 32.401.

I was now leading the championship by 27 points.

Sunday 16 August 2015

Round 2 - Auto Club 500 Auto Club Raceway (California)

Round 2 of the series took place at the Auto Club Speedway, previously Fontana in sunny California.

I was fastest in practice with a time 41.852 after my 10 laps.

In qualifying I was able to reproduce my form and duly qualified in pole with times of 41.941 and 41.980.

In the race I managed to be around the front until lap 42 when I stopped for fuel. I had to stop again on lap 43 because I was caught speeding in the pit lane!

I then spent the rest of the race making my way back to the front which I duly achieved!

My best lap of the race was 41.842 which was faster than I qualified!

I was 1st in the standings, 65 points ahead.

Sunday 9 August 2015

Round 1 - Daytona 500, Daytona, Florida

For this series I decided to leave the limit for practice as 10 laps.

I ended up fastest after practice with a best time of 50.289 seconds.

Qualifying for this series (and all other NASCAR championships) is in a 2 lap dash format. The track is empty at this point.

I qualified in 1st. My time was 50.303.

I managed to stay up front until there was a yellow flag period midway through the race. I took the opportunity to pit for fuel. I rejoined the race in 10th place.

I spent the remainder of the race working my way through the pack. I was helped when everyone else stopped for gas under green flag conditions.

The result was my first Daytona 500 win!

My fastest lap of the race was 49.673 my fastest lap of the weekend.

I led 74/of the 90 laps.

Round 28 - Homestead, Miami, Ford 300

Round 28, the final round of the series took place at the Homestead Miami Speedway in Florida.

The championship was on the line so the pressure was on.

The 10 lap practice session went well as I was fastest with a time of 37.794.

Qualifying did not go too well as I had to be content with a 18th place grid slot with a time of 37.650.

In the race I managed to climb through the field to lead before pitting on lap 41 for fuel.

I drove back though the field to 18th before receiving the dreaded black flag on lap 58 which after pitting dropped me a lap behind.

It was then that I got lucky as a few laps after rejoining the race there was a yellow flag caution period. I turned out to be the lucky dog and got my lap back!

I drove back though the field again to clinch an unlikely win and the championship!!!!!!

My fastest lap of the race was a 37.676.

Round 27 - Phoenix International Raceway - Arizona Travel 200

The 27th round of the Championship took place in the Arizona desert at the Phoenix International Raceway.

Practice went very well as my time of 29.447 was the fastest posted during the session.

My good form carried over into qualifying as I was able to win pole position with a time of 29.503.

In the race I was always in the top 2. I led for 58 of the 90 laps. I stopped for fuel on lap 45 and then drove back through the field to re-take the lead and win my second race of the season at Phoenix.
.
My best lap time in the race was 29.205, my fastest lap of the weekend.

The win took me 128 clear at the top of the Championship standings.

Sunday 29 March 2015

Round 26 - Texas Motor Speedway - O'Reilly Challenge

Round 26 took place at one of the fastest tracks on the championship circuit, Texas Motor Speedway.

The race weekend started well as I was fastest straight out of the box in practice with a time of 33.771 after the mandatory 10 laps.

I was a tad quicker in qualifying but still managed to claim pole position with a time of 33.715.

The 90 lap race was not another fuel disaster for me. From the dropping of the flag I led for 42 laps before pitting for fuel. Eight laps later there was a caution period which got me back on the lead lap as the "lucky dog". When the others finally pitted for fuel I was too far ahead to be caught. Another win.

My best lap of the race was a 33.604 which was my fastest of the race weekend.

I led 68 of the 90 laps.

I was 1st in the standings 60 points ahead - the Championship looming!.

Saturday 28 March 2015

Round 25 - Lowes Motor Speedway, Charlotte NC - Dollar General 300

The twenty-fifth round of the series saw the cars roll in to Lowes motor speedway (formerly Charlotte) in North Carolina.

Another solid practice session where again I was fastest with a time of  32.553 after the 10 laps.

Qualifying almost followed the pattern of practice as I was fastest with a time of 32.486.

I stayed at the front for the first 27 laps before making my first stop for fuel when the race entered its first caution period.

Making my back through the pack I yet again drove too aggressively and received the dreaded black flag on lap 47. I resumed after the drive through penalty at the back of the pack.

Making my back through the pack I yet again drove too aggressively and received another black flag on lap 70. I resumed after the drive through penalty at the back of the pack.

After the second black flag I concentrated hard and managed in the 20 remaining laps to get myself back in the lead. I held that position until the fall of the checkered flag.

I led 61 of the 90 laps.

I was 1st in the standings.

I set a fastest time of 32.358.

Sunday 25 January 2015

Round 24 Kansas Lottery 300, Kansas

Round 24 took place at the very fast Kansas Motor Speedway.

As usual it seems I had a very good practice session, topping the timing sheets with a time of 33.557.

Qualifying didn't go so well as I could only manage a 33.695 which saw me on the 10th row in 19th place.

It didn't take long for me to move up the order in the race. I decided to stop for fuel under a caution period on lap 40.

Working my way back through the pack after my pit stop I hit too many cars and was given the black flag on lap 47.

With 43 laps still remaining I still had enough time to score some decent points. I carefully began to make my way back up through the pack.

My plan worked a treat as I not only avoided another black flack I also made it all way back to the front. I was very happy when the checkered flag finally flew.

I was up to 2nd in the standings 42 points behind.

My fastest lap of the race was a 33.681.

I led 54 of the 90 laps.

Friday 23 January 2015

Round 23 Dover, Roadloans.com 200

The Monster Mile that is Dover played host to round 23 of the series.

As with recent rounds in practice I was fastest with a best time of 26.998.

Qualifying went well as I posted the fastest time and secured another pole position (27.030).

I kept the lead from pole for the majority of the early laps. On lap 23 a lapse of concentration almost made me spin out however I did manage to catch it and only dropped to 5th place.

I took advantage of a yellow on lap 30 to stop for fuel. Of course I restarted at the back of the pack so for the next 60 laps it was a case of catching up.

This track is a one mile oval so I was always in traffic and collisions were inevitable. It was no surprise when I received the black flag on lap 50 which of course sent me back to the tail end of the field.

There was still 40 laps to go so I wasn't out of it yet. I carefully began to move back up the field. I did manage to get to 2nd before the laps run out. A good finish in the end.

My best lap of the race was 26.899.

I led 22 of the 90 laps.

I was now 4th in the Championship standings 95 points behind the leader.

Saturday 17 January 2015

Round 22 - Richmond, Emerson Radio 250

The latest round of the championship took place on the high speed short track of Richmond.

I was glad to be quickest in practice with a time of 22.628 which was faster than the time I posted the first time I came here this season.

I was just as successful in qualifying, a time of 23.190 was good enough for pole position.

I stayed up front in the race until lap 35 when I stopped for fuel under a yellow.

I may my way through the pack until I received the dreaded black flag on lap 65.

With 48 laps remaining I was able to battle my way back to the front.

Another win!

I was now 6th in the championship, 110 points behind the leader.

My fastest lap time was 22.400 my fastest of the weekend.
